Pastor Brian Oltman
Pastor Brian Oltman is an ELCA pastor who grew up west of Minneapolis in Glencoe MN. In 1990 he graduated from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, IA and has served various parishes in CA and MN, along with being a chaplain with Sharp Hospitals in San Diego, CA. For a number of years he worked for Lutheran Social Services in the Bay Area of San Francisco, CA. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist/Pastoral Counselor in CA. For the last 10 years he has worked as a therapist in the Adult Intensive Outpatient Program at Sharp Mesa Vista Psychiatric Hospital in San Diego, along with a counseling practice at the New Life Center at the First United Methodist Church also in San Diego. The focus of his counseling practice includes individuals, couples, men, adolescents, LGBT and those with chronic pain. Seven years ago he had spinal cord surgery to remove what was thought to be a tumor on his spinal cord, but instead it turned out to be something called sarcoidosis, which could not be removed. This procedure caused some nerve damage, which has broadened the focus of his work to include those with chronic pain, spinal cord injuries and other debilitating conditions. He is currently studying to complete a PsyD/MFT Doctoral Degree through Ryokan College of Los Angeles, focusing on the Effectiveness of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Spirituality in coping with symptoms of depression, anxiety and substance abuse.
Vicki Vereen, Parish Assistant
In 2012 Vicki returned to Coronado after spending nine years in Seattle to be near her son Aaron. In Seattle Vicki worked at Queen Anne Lutheran Church as Parish Assistant. This was the first time she had worked in a church. She found that this work brought together her educational experience from San Diego State University in Social Work and her desire to live her faith together.
She came to Resurrection Lutheran Church one Easter morning and found a church home here. She began working as the Parish Assistant here in 2013.
She brings experience from Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado Schools and the Coronado Library. Very much motivated and excited by the community she lives in she loves working and attending RLC. She especially enjoys sharing Godly Play with the Preschool Children.
